Red Rover

The Restricted Adventures of Raja Empathy App

The Challenge

RedRover approached us with a heartfelt proposition: they wanted to create a fun, cool way for kids ages 7-11 to learn about empathy for animals.
Their team was buzzing with ideas, but had little experience making content for kids: they needed our help to deliver content with a robust soul that kids would love. They asked us to track down the best of the best in terms of talent, energy, and enthusiasm to make an immersive game that would really pop!

The Process

First, we hit the books! We put together a snapshot of the children’s market, and looked at what kind of media would be best for the project.
The folks at RedRover were excited about a previous project of theirs that had used real books in a digital context, and we decided to run with it. RedRover’s CEO dreamed up the story for an exciting graphic novel with crisp images and lots of action. We found a stellar writer who gave it a gripping graphic plot, and hooked an incredible artist to bring the idea to the screen.

Accreditations

Our very first graphic novel ranked 11th in the Apple US app store for ebooks when it launched! There are now three graphic novels and games in the series, and the project has not only received positive reviews on educator websites, but it was also featured on the Good Day Sacramento morning show and nominated for a 2020 Kidscreen Award.
